This should be a "pasty" --- pun intended

Symptoms:

A) Code 45 due to overboost. Ski runs great off the ramp, goes actually fast, and so warning - Stuck closed
B) Acceleration is sluggish - top speed is a bit less than it should be - Stuck open

Many people have replaced the wastegate with a refurbished unit due to the valve sticking. I didn't desire to pay for that. I've had the turbo off before to supplant the exhaust manifold, I know what the pieces await similar, so I figured out how to clean it up and get it unstuck.

How to cheque for stuck wastegate:

If you lot're getting the code 45 (overboost), then you might desire to check the solenoid first - see sticky on this forum

1) find the wastegate actuator. It's the thing mounted to the meridian of the wastegate with the rod that moves back and along. There is a minor air pressure tube coming off of it, which connects to the T in the small hoses.

2) yous might cull to test the actuator functioning first. This requires an air compressor with blower nozzle. Set the compressor to most x-20 PSI merely. DON'T PUT As well MUCH AIR Pressure INTO Information technology, You lot MAY Impairment THE ACTUATOR. Pull the air hose from the T that is going to the actuator, apply air pressure to the hose. The rod of the actuator should movement freely. If it does not - motion to the side by side pace

At this point, or maybe before, you volition want to remove the seat mountain and side panels. My experience is merely with the F-12X 3 seater, then you can figure it out if you take an R-12X

3) remove the small-scale C clip from the lesser side of the pin at the end of the actuator rod. The pin goes through a small arm that opens the internal wastegate valve. Pull the pin up out of the arm to release the force per unit area of free the actuator rod from the valve arm.

iv) the wastegate valve arm should move freely by mitt. OH, information technology doesn't you say? Then you accept a stuck wastegate.

This is where the work actually starts.

5) remove the big height exhaust section. 3 12mm bolts on the forward side, and large hose clench above the water box.

vi) remove the exhaust section that mounts to the side of the wastegate. 5 12mm bolts I believe. ii of them will not be able to exist fully removed, but that'due south OK, just try not to drop them down later. A pocket-sized 1/4" socket wrench can accomplish pretty easy.

vii) now remove the wastegate actuator. 2 bolts hold the mounting plate to the wastegate. I think the original bolts are a Torx head. At this point, yous have exposed the wastegate valve. Use a pocket-sized handheld mirror to audit. Run into attached pictures.

9) Stuff a rag into the side of the wastegate where the air goes in to spin the turbo. Take some PB Equalizer, Liquid Wrench, or similar penetrating lubricant and soak the crap out of the superlative arm and the valve within. I also found it useful to become an old toothbrush and brush the Pb Blaster around on the valve to release any contaminates and rub information technology in really good. Let it sit down for a couple hours. Soaking information technology and brushing it again periodically.

At this point, you might take freed the valve arm. It should move freely dorsum and forth past mitt. If you tin move it a little, or information technology takes considerable forcefulness to move it back and along, try working it back and forth repeatedly, and soaking it with the lube some more than.

Mine was really stuck, information technology took a lot of forcefulness to motion it. I decided to utilize some heat to help the lube penetrate through. I used my cheapo Harbor Freight rut gun to utilize heat to the pinnacle of the wastegate arm for nigh iii-five minutes on low speed. I worked it dorsum and forth some more, soaked it some more. Practice this as many times as it takes to become the valve arm moving freely.

Congrats - you have fixed your stuck wastegate without spending hundreds of dollars, lots of time, and lots of blasphemous. I managed to become it done in an afternoon.

ten) Put it all back together. It would not hurt to employ new exhaust gaskets if you want to become them. The metallic gaskets might be in good shape, so you can just re-employ them. DON'T FORGET TO REMOVE THE RAG IN YOUR WASTEGATE.
